Privacy policy
What we collect when you ask for a quote or sell us metal, why we hold it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Last updated: TODO(client): set the date this policy was approved
This policy explains how Brisbane Scrap Metal Buyers handles personal information. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect
Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:
- Your name, phone number and email address when you send a quote request.
- The suburb or address where the metal is, so we can plan a pickup run.
- Details of the material you want to sell, including any photos you send us.
- Identification details we are required to record when we buy scrap metal, which can include a photo identification document and, for a vehicle, evidence that you are entitled to sell it.
- Payment details where you ask to be paid by electronic transfer.
- Basic technical information logged by our web host when you visit this site, such as your IP address and browser type.
Why we collect it
We use personal information to:
- Give you a price and arrange a pickup or drop-off.
- Pay you for material we buy, and keep our own accounting records.
- Meet record keeping obligations that apply to scrap metal dealers in Queensland.
- Answer questions and follow up on jobs we have quoted.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use quote requests to add you to a marketing list without your say so.
Who we share it with
We disclose personal information only where it is needed to run the business or where the law requires it. That can include our accountant, our bank or payment provider, our web and email hosts, and police or a government agency where we are legally obliged to produce records.
How we store it
Quote requests are sent to our business email and stored there. Purchase records are kept for the period required by law and then destroyed or de-identified. We take reasonable steps to protect information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, but no system is completely secure.
Cookies and analytics
This site does not set advertising cookies and does not run third party tracking.
Access, correction and complaints
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Email info@brisbanescrapmetalbuyers.com.au or ring0415 512 255. We will respond within a reasonable time and, if we refuse a request, we will tell you why.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, tell us first so we can try to fix it. If you are still not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always the one published on this page.
